Pelican Brewing Company Awarded Champion Medium International Brewery
|
Throughout its history, Pelican Brewing Company is no stranger to being awarded many brewing medals and awards. Many of these awards have come from within the United States, most notably from the Great American Brewers Festival, but Pelican is no stranger to receiving international brewing awards.
Once again Pelican Brewing is in the spotlight from being awarded “Champion Medium International Brewery” at the 2015 Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA) held on May 21st in Melbourne, Australia. Only three years ago Pelican Pub & Brewery took home the coveted 2012 Champion Small International Brewery at the same award ceremony.
The Champion Medium International Brewery is awarded based on a total of points scored by the beers submitted. Pelican brews received seven medals in the 2015 competition. Those awards include:
MacPelican’s Scottish Ale – Gold, British Style Ale (Other)
Stormwatcher’s Winterfest – Silver, Scotch Ale
Mother of All Storms – Silver, Wood Aged Ales
Doryman’s Ale – Silver, Brown Ale
Silverspot IPA – Silver, British Style IPA
Imperial Pelican Ale – Bronze, Imperial/Double IPA
Umbrella IPA – Bronze, India Pale Ale (Other)
Tsunami Stout – Silver, Stout (Other)
“This was a really fantastic surprise,” said Darron Welch, Brewmaster at Pelican Brewing Company. “You always hope for the best when you enter competitions like this, but to be recognized by our peers at an international level at the AIBA is really exciting and we couldn’t be more honored.”
The 2015 AIBA, conducted by The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria, attracted a record number of entries with more than 1,700 submissions from 344 exhibitors, across 35 countries received. The AIBA is the largest annual competition of its kind in the world judging both draught and packaged beer.
