Carrie Ladd Steamship Porter Returns From Double Mountain Brewery
|With so many seasonal releases from our large number of Pacific Northwest breweries it can be challenging to remember the frequency of these releases. It has now been two years since Double Mountain Brewery & Taproom had released its Carrie Ladd Steamship Porter.
Carrie Ladd Steamship Porter is pours dark brown in appearance and offers up a nice frothy tan head. A nice roasty, chocolate taste extrudes from the pour. At 6.6% ABV this Porter is one that will warm oneself in these waning winter days.
“I couldn’t be more excited to see the Ladd back. It is one of my favorite beers. It tastes great, drinks easy and defies categories. Doesn’t get any better than that!” states Head Brewer Kyle Larsen in a news release.
Here’s the brewery’s description. This beer is a tribute to the Steamship Carrie Ladd that ran freight and passengers from Portland to the Cascade Rapids (Cascade Locks) from 1859 to 1862. We ferment this beer with Czech Lager yeast at ale temperature to temper the sulfur that this yeast tends to throw. The unique ferment temperature provides a fresh bread aroma with light cherry fruit overtones to this already rich, roasted, and robust porter. This style was popular among the pioneers that flocked to the coastal Northwest for the gold and timber rush.
With this year’s release look for Carrie Ladd Steamship Porter to be arriving throughout the Northwest, British Columbia, and Southern California in 500 ml bottles.
