Chris Cosentino of Jackrabbit Collaborates With Breakside Brewery on Happy Unbirthday Lager
|In time for this weekend’s premiere food event, Feast Portland, local celebrity chef, Chris Cosentino of Jackrabbit has collaborated on a beer with Breakside Brewery. Happy Unbirthday is a sparkling lager with Lemon Verbena and will be available at Jackrabbit, located inside of the Duniway Hotel, as well as all Breakside Brewery pub locations beginning Wednesday, September 13th.
The beer’s name, Happy Unbirthday is a tribute to The Unbirthday Song, sung by the Mad Hatter and the March Hare, (or “White Rabbit,”) in Alice in Wonderland. Happy Unbirthday was created to pay homage to the whimsical character as the White Rabbit can be found in various design elements throughout Jackrabbit’s main and private dining rooms.
Happy Unbirthday Description:
This is a dry and spritzy lager brewed with Italian-grown Pilsner malt and lemon verbena. If this beer reminds you of a champagne cocktail or an apertif you’ve had on a beautiful piazza, it should. Effervescent and refined, this beer should be enjoyed while celebrating feasts large and small with friends.
ABV 5.4 IBU 22

This lager sounds great! You had me sold at “lemon verbena” and “champagne cocktail.”
I do have to mention… The March Hare & the White Rabbit are two completely different characters in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Also, as their names suggest, one is a hare and one is a rabbit. Although Jackrabbits have “rabbit” in their name, they are actually a breed of hare. While the logo for Jackrabbit features a white jackrabbit, hares of all colors can be found throughout the restaurant. So, the reference to the “Unbirthday” song makes the most sense for Jackrabbit restaurant because it is sung by the March Hare, who is a relative of jackrabbits. /end obscure knowledge drop.
