Firestone Walker Launches Galaxy Shapeshifters Hazy IPA
In the latest IPA Mixed Pack from Firestone Walker Brewing, the new, limited-edition IPA of the pack, Galaxy Shapeshifters Hazy IPA, pays homage to the land down under.
As one may guess from the beer’s name, Galaxy Shapeshifters Hazy IPA, is brewed with Galaxy hops from Australia. This is one hop that is in high demand and is perfect for brewing a Hazy IPA.
Galaxy Shapeshifters Hazy IPA is inspired by Brewmaster Matt Brynildson’s travels to Australian hop farms in Victoria and Tasmania, where the Galaxy hop is grown.
“Galaxy is very tropical and intense with flavors of passionfruit, peach, and citrus,” said Brynildson. “We finally have a solid supply of it, and we were able to really let it loose in this beer.”
But it’s not just a one-dimensional hoppy beer as it also adds the multifaceted Citra hop into the mix. “We’ve joked with our farmer friends Down Under that Galaxy is the Citra hop of Australia,” said Brynildson. “They’re both really intense and work well together in a hazy IPA.”
To balance out the Galaxy and Citra hops, Galaxy Shapeshifters Hazy IPA uses a complex malt bill of 2-Row, White Wheat, Munich, Torrified Wheat, Blonde Roast Oats, and Rolled Oats. The result is a heavily unfiltered, hazy beer that is bursting with juicy, citrus flavors with a clean mouthfeel. Galaxy Shapeshifters Hazy IPA sits at 6% ABV and 35 IBUs.
Just as with all of the Firestone Walker IPA Mixed Packs, they’re inspired by music and the brewery even names each of the special, limited-edition IPA with the assistance of a random band name generator.
