Making its return is Buoy Italian Pilsner, and this time it is being released for the warm days of summer. Brewed by Buoy Beer Co., its Italian Pilsner is crafted with a blend of tradition and a splash of West Coast innovation that’s a perfect way to beat the summer heat.

The Italian Pilsner is a beer style that has a short history that has become quite popular here in the U.S., possibly more so that in the beer’s native Italy. Italian Pilsners are a nod to the classic hop forward German Pilsners, but with a uniquely Italian twist. The style made its debut in 1996 when Italian brewery, Birrificio Italiano decided to put its own spin on a German Pilsner by dry-hopping its beer Tipopils (or “kind of pils” in Italian) with noble hops. Still not an official Brewers Association beer style, brewers have enjoyed being able to put their own spin on this tasty style!

Buoy’s Italian Pilsner is brewed with Eraclea barley, meticulously grown near the Adriatic Sea northeast of Venice, Italy. This special barley lends a distinctive malty-sweet aroma with notes of oat and honey. When it came to the hop selection, the brew team selected Magnum (for bittering) and Spalter and Tettnang (for dry-hopping) hops from Germany, giving the beer earthy, herbal, and spicy hop notes that complement its clean bitterness. As always with our lagers, we allow long-enough lagering times to ensure a smooth, refreshing taste that’s crisp and clean.

Look for Buoy Italian Pilsner in 4-pack, 16 ounce cans and on draft this summer!
