Montavilla Brew Works Releases Scotland The Brave Scotch-Style Ale

With the dark, wet days of winter approaching, Montavilla Brew Works is set to release Scotland The Brave Scotch-Style Ale on draft and in 16oz cans beginning tomorrow, Friday, December 8, 2023. This marks a first for the Southeast Portland brewer taking the reigns on brewing a Scotch-Style Ale or what is also known as a Wee Heavy.

This new Scotch-Style Ale celebrates the founder of the brewery’s Scottish heritage. “My mother was born in a small town outside Glasgow, Scotland and immigrated to the US when she was just eight years old,” stated Michael Kora, Founder/Brewer at Montavilla Brew Works. “The stories of crossing the Atlantic with my grandparents, entering Ellis Island, witnessing the Statue of Liberty and making a brave new life for themselves has always been inspiring to me. This special brew commemorates and honors all those who have left their homes behind to make a better life for themselves and their families.”

Scotland The Brave Scotch-Style Ale is brewed with a blend of five Scottish and North American malts and two Scottish and American yeast strains. The flavors are described as being malt-forward with a rich, chocolaty biscuit-like complexity, yet is eminently drinkable. However, it is deceptively potent at 7.7% ABV as it finishes medium-dry and is not cloying in the slightest.

Scotland The Brave Scotch-Style Ale is available on draft (limited) and in 16oz cans beginning on Friday, December 8th. The beer is currently making its way to local New Seasons, Market Of Choice and bottle shops across Portland.
