Whiskey Wednesday – Westland American Single Malt Whiskey Seattle Kraken Commemorative Bottling
When the National Hockey League season kicked off a few months back, the Pacific Northwest had a new team in the hockey league with the Seattle Kraken. To celebrate this inaugural season, Westland Distillery became the official local whiskey of the NHL’s 32nd and latest franchise.
With this tag of being the official local whiskey, Westland Distillery has released the Seattle Kraken Commemorative Bottling of its Westland American Single Malt Whiskey. Exclusively available in Washington State, this Seattle Kraken Whiskey is the perfect spirit to have by your side while watching the Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena or watching on Roots Sports.
Though this Seattle Kraken Whiskey has a bold label the brings the Kraken front and center, the whiskey inside this bottle is Westland’s award-winning flagship whiskey, Westland American Single Malt Whiskey. This is the same whiskey that Westland has been producing for the past decade.
In distilling its American Single Malt Whiskey, Westland uses a five-malt mash bill consisting of Washington Select Pale Malt, Munich Malt, Extra Special Malt, Pale Chocolate Malt, Brown Malt, and Bairds Heavily Peated Malt. After its distillation process, Westland American Single Malt Whiskey is then aged for at least 40 months in new oak and then bottled at 92 proof.
Last evening we tasted Westland American Single Malt Whiskey Seattle Kraken Bottling amongst a few friends. We found the nose on the Westland American Single Malt Whiskey full of vanilla, berry fruit, and baking spices. The palate features a nice lighter mouthfeel making this one tremendously easy drinking. It’s here were we noticed a bit more vanilla along with some apricot and melon. A few of us found a tad bit of smoke on the finish while another adamantly found no such smoke.
Whether you can find this Seattle Kraken themed bottle or the normal Westland American Single Malt Whiskey bottle, there’s not denying that you’ll have a pleasant experience!

I found it to be way to sharp and hot, it needs more time in the barrel, to let the spices and aromas really take hold, I would love to try it between the 8-12 year mark, when it smoothed out. It does have great characteristics to mix with citrus and I would suggest making cosmos or manhattan’s as that was delicious
