2 Must Attend Firestone Walker Events in Oregon
If you are a craft beer lover then you are likely quite familiar with the well crafted beers of Firestone Walker. The Paso Robles, California brewery was founded in 1996 by Adam Firestone, son of Brooks Firestone, and Adam’s brother-in-law David Walker. Fresh out the gates, the two along with a talented team of brewers lead by brewmaster Matt Brynildson have been wowing palates while garnering a boatload of national recognition. Most recently, Brynildson and company took home the coveted Brewery of the Year honors at the 2011 World Beer Cup as well as the 2011 Great American Beer Festival.
Firestone Walker’s motto is “Passion for the Pale” that is indicative of their well-received and award winning brews from their Pale Series such as their Pale 31 and their Double Barrel Ale (DBA). In addition to the beers on the lighter end of the beer spectrum, FW is also touted for their Walker’s Reserve Robust Porter and Abacus Barleywine, two truly noteworthy specimens from their Proprietor Series, of which you can anticipate some very alluring releases to make their way from in the next year. Probably the most highly sought after brews from the Paso Robles outfit are the barrel-aged imperial treats from their Anniversary Series. Since their tenth anniversary, FW has been releasing a fall-time big beer marked by the Roman numeral indicative of their birthday. The latest release, XV, is a hearty oak-laden treat with a world of complexity, that, like the other Anniversary ales, is worthy of cellaring for future samplings.
Coming up early next week, two of Oregon’s finest craft beer establishments will host co-founder David Walker to share some of Firestone Walker’s most intriguing and desirable brews as well as answer questions and share a bit of craft beer history with patrons.
On Monday December 12, 2011, Belmont Station of Portland will pour a three year vertical of bottles from the Anniversary Series including Firestone’s XIII, XIV, and this year’s XV. Belmont Station is located at 4500 SE Stark Street in Portland, Oregon.
The following day, Tuesday December 13, 2011 from 6-9PM, The Bier Stein of Eugene will host a partial tap takeover (look for treats like their Oaktoberfest and Velvet Merlin) and 15th Anniversary Release Party with the founder. Bier Stein general manager Dave Stockhausen informs us “We will have six Firestone Walker brews on tap including 15th Anniversary Barrel-aged blend. If you buy a glass of 15th Anniversary you will receive a four-ounce sample of 14th Anniversary to have side by side(while supplies last). We will also have bottles of both 14th and 15th Anniversary available for a discounted price if you buy them together!” The Bier Stein is located at 345 E. 11th Avenue in Eugene, Oregon.
These are truly amazing events and are not to be missed! Cheers!
