With winter sports in full swing, 10 Barrel Brewing’s Pub Beer has just brought Max Warbington on board as the brand’s first team athlete. The young snowboarder from 10 Barrel’s hometown of Bend, Oregon is ready to carry the banner of The Cheap Fun Team and hopefully recruit other underfunded extreme athletes to join the team!

In the realm of low-budget clip-baggers, Max is already a star. He’s already been featured in some of internet snowboarding’s finest productions, from Think Thank movies to his own Shorts and Shades, to cameos as a member of Lick The Cat. He’s also the ringleader behind core snowboarding events like Brain Bowl, and even moonlights as a DJ under the stage name, DJ Lavalamp.

Look out for Mr. Warbington on-site at Natural Selection Tour on March 10, 2025. He’ll be the guy rallying the crowd and dishing out off-color commentary via @cheapfunbeer. From there, he’s headed to Brighton Resort to serve on the judging panel for The Bomb Hole Cup. And, he’ll be on the lookout for potential new teammates.

10 Barrel Brewing’s Q&A With Max Warbington

Congrats! You’re the first Cheap Fun. athlete. What does that mean to you, and where do you hope to lead the team in this role?

ncredibly excited! Being the first Cheap Fun. athlete is a huge honor, and I’m stoked to help shape the team into something unique in the snowboard world. Who knows where it’ll go from here, but I’m going to give it my all to make it awesome!

Give us the CliffsNotes on your snowboarding background.

I was born and raised on my parents’ farm in Tumalo, Oregon, just outside of Bend. My home mountain since I was 10 has been Mt. Bachelor—hands down the best mountain in the world, if you ask me!

In Fall 2023, my wife and I moved with some friends from Bend to Truckee, CA. It’s been a great change of scenery, and I’ve loved exploring all the new terrain here. After riding in Bend for so long, I was feeling tapped out on new spots and ideas. Tahoe has been a breath of fresh air, with endless options for riding and filming.

It’s a perfect bluebird pow day in Tahoe, and you have the day off. How do you spend it?

Either out exploring on my snowmobile with my friends or hiking around new zones looking for jumps!

My favorite part of snowboarding is the search for a good spot. Whether it’s in the streets or the backcountry, there’s something so fun and rewarding about randomly coming across a feature that’s perfect for a trick I’ve had in my head.

Then comes the challenge of building it properly, which can be tough, but when you find the right spot, build it right, and actually land that trick—it’s the best feeling ever.

What does it mean to be a pro snowboarder in 2025?

It’s who you know, who you are, and how hard you can bust! Haha. No, it’s actually really hard to say what it means to be pro. Everyone is incredibly skilled at snowboarding these days. I bet there’s probably 2,000+ people who have the tricks required to be pro.

I’d say getting to the pro-level comes down to being a nice and well-rounded person who can put out content and stuff that makes snowboarding look very impressive while also like it’s the most fun thing to do!

You definitely gotta be able to bust tricks and to get the respect of your peers and the industry you need to have at least a few really solid video parts under your belt. Once you’ve done that consistently for a few years everyone will take notice and then it’s like what else besides good tricks can you do?

I’ve always had a passion for hosting events that bring my friends and all snow people together to have a blast. Shorts & Shades, the QP Campout, Brain Bowl and all of those community events I am a part of have been a huge factor in moving me up the ranks of snowboarding to reach my dream of being a real pro.

At this point I’ve had my name on a board and my outerwear for 7 years and I’m just starting to be comfortable calling myself pro. I’m so grateful to Gnu & Airblaster for seeing what I was doing and believing in me so hard. It really is a dream come true.

How important is it to align with sponsors that match your personal brand?

It’s absolutely crucial! I’ve been lucky to ride for brands that feel like home from the start. When I started getting boards from Gnu, Danny Kass was one of my favorite riders, and the whole team was made up of people I looked up to. The same goes for Airblaster—I loved their fun, lighthearted vibe compared to everything else out there.

Being from Bend, Pub Beer was a natural fit for me too. They’ve supported my events since day one, and their vibe aligns perfectly with what I’m about. Now, with Cheap Fun., I feel the same way—it’s exactly the kind of energy I want to put out into the snowboard world.

I couldn’t be more hyped to be leading this new team!

There are hundreds of aspiring pros out there, some with bigger followings than youWhy do you think Cheap Fun. chose you?

I’d like to think it’s because I truly live the Cheap Fun. mentality.

My entire snowboard career has been based on having as much fun as possible and sharing that energy with those around me. I love coming up with creative ways to bring people together to ride, laugh, and have a good time.

That energy gets me hyped to do better tricks, and in turn, it gets people around me even more excited. I’m stoked to be part of this, and I can’t wait to bring more of that magic to life!

We’ve heard Cheap Fun. is looking to recruit more riders this season. What’s your advice for snowboarders hoping to join the team?

Number one: be a kind and welcoming person! Energy is everything. We’re looking for people who bring good vibes, fresh ideas, and a passion for making snowboarding even more fun. If you have creative ideas on how to juice up the sport with a healthy dose of Cheap Fun., hit me up!

What does Cheap Fun. mean to you?

To me, it’s all about good ol’ fashioned great times with my best friends. That’s what I live for! I can’t wait to get this collab rolling and keep spreading as much stoke as possible. Cheap Fun. and good vibes go hand in hand!
