Beervana 2 Beervana at Belmont Station
|Craft beer is not only taking off here in the United States, its now becoming a growth industry in many other areas of the globe. This is evident later this month when New Zealand’s premier beer festival, Beervana, is hosting three Portland breweries in this so called “Beervana Exchange”.
Two New Zealand breweries and one prominent US based beer writer teamed up with The Commons, Gigantic and Widmer to brew unique beers for this special beer fest in New Zealand on August 22nd to 23rd.
For those of us that will not be making the trek across the globe to New Zealand we will be able to sample these three beers on Thursday, August 14th from 5:00 to 7:00pm. Belmont Station will be hosting Beervana 2 Beervana.
Here are descriptions of the three beers that will be pouring on Thursday:
Gigantic Brewing & 8 Wired Brewing – PDXNWESB
Gigantic Brewing’s collaboration with Soren Eriksen of Wellington’s 8 Wired Brewing to create this citrus fruit hop explosion. Brewed with a blend of New Zealand Pacifica hops and Oregon Crystal hops from Oregon and caramel and bready malts balance this brew out. 6.8% ABV.
The Commons Brewery & Tuatara Brewing – Nova Pacifica Saison
The Commons collaborated with Carl Vasta of New Zealand’s Tuatara Brewing. The duo crafted a Saison brimming with New Zealand Sauvin and Oregon Meridian hops. 5.2% ABV.
Widmer Brothers Brewing & John Holl – Manuka Helles
Widmer’s collaboration with John Holl, beer writer & editor of All About Beer magazine and author of The American Craft Beer Cookbook in a media brew. Brewed with New Zealand’s own Manuka honey and Wakatu hops, this lager is a clean and refreshing spin on the classic Munich Helles style. 5.3% ABV.
Belmont Station will offer a flight of all three beers in their Biercafé. This will be an excellent time to swing by the “Station” to give our Portland brewers a big send off on their special Beervana to Beervana beers!
