Widmer Brothers Small Batch 'Tap'penning at By The Bottle

Downtown Vancouver’s favorite bottle shop, By The Bottle, is proud to host Widmer Brothers Small Batch Limited Release ‘Tap’penning. Widmer will be bringing their road show to the north side of the Columbia River on Wednesday, September 25th from 6:00 – 8:00pm.

One of the more unknown breweries from Portland’s largest brewery lies within the Rose Quarter area where Widmer Brothers Brewing operates a small 10 barrel brewery known as Widmer Brothers Rose Quarter Brewery. This is where they brew all of their new beers, test batches, experimental efforts and the like are concocted. Four of these special beers will be featured at the ‘Tap’penning. Since Widmer does not bottle any of these one-offs, Old Ivy Taproom, just across the way, will be presenting these beers on draft. Since Widmer’s experimental brewery is not open to the public, this is a fantastic opportunity to check these four beers out.

Beyond these rare beers, the folks at By The Bottle will be offering raffle prizes, Widmer Trivia Contest and good times. Be sure to check out the beer menu below.

Millennium Falconer American Imperial IPA | IBU: 64 | ABV: 8.5%
This tasty DIPA is a nod to Glen Hay Falconer, a Northwest brewing legend who passed away in 2002. An exclusive hop blend, Falconer’s Flight, was created to honor Glen’s legacy and is said to no longer be available after this year. Also named for the usage of Millennium hops… isn’t it also the name of the spaceship in Star Wars? What’s in a name anyway? Apparently quite a bit!

Widmer Double M.A.C. Pale Ale | Abv 4.6%
This American-style dry-hopped pale ale promises to please. The acronym stands for Mosiac, Amarillo, and Cascade hops. Mosaic hops provide a tropical nose and a little bit of citrus on the mouth, while Amarillo hops ad a touch of spice, and the Cascade hops provides a perceived bitterness. You can’t offer a beer with MAC in the name without thinking about Mac n’ Cheese, right? I know. A Beer Mac n’ Cheese recipe will be available to all and raffle winners will receive the beer ingredient which is a 12-ounce Widmer Drop Top Amber.

Widmer Pomegranate Heff | IBU: 30
The base beer is the flagship brew that started it all for Widmer, the multi-medal winner Widmer Heffewiezen which claims to define the American-style heff. It’s bold, clean flavor and pronounced citrus and floral aromas are infused with pomegranate producing cool, bright, mildly tart flavors with a slight pink hue.

Collaborator /Steel Bridge Porter
This collaborative effort between Widmer and Oregon Brew Crew, a home brewers club, resulted in big malts and big hops that fight for dominance in this American-style Porter. ABV: 6.4%
