Loyal Legion Presents Its Industry Beer Education Program
|The beginning of December will bring a new beer education course from the staff at Loyal Legion. Held at Loyal Legion’s new event space, The Evergreen, this three-part industry series will be hosted by Herb Apon, beer guru and curator of Loyal Legion’s tap list. Loyal Legion’s Industry Beer Education Program intent is to take your beer knowledge to the next level.
The three courses will take place on December 6, 13, and 20. Each of the three-hour classes will build on the previous. Then at the end of the three-week course you will have a rock solid foundation in the origins of beer, ingredients, the brewing process, style, taste, ABV, IBU, SRM, and gravity.
The courses will also cover industry specific knowledge, such as draft line and keg science, using the correct glassware and pour, food pairings and off-flavors. This series of courses is said to be a great addition to anyone working towards their Cicerone or BJCP certificate, a home brewer, distributor, or industry professional.
Course Syllabus:
- December 6 – Class 1: Beer History and Origin
- December 13 – Class 2: In Depth Breakdown of Styles
- December 20 – Class 3: Industry Science: tap lines, food pairings, off flavors, keg maintenance
Classes will take place from 2:00 to 5:00pm. The cost to attend all three courses in advance is $100. Tickets at the door will be $125, and would presume to be cash only. Price includes all three classes with beer samples and food pairings provided. Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite by clicking here. Or tickets can be purchased at the door if still available.
If you cannot make all three courses Loyal Legion is also offering attendees to choose one or two classes but this cost will be $50 per class based on availability. Please RSVP to herb@loyallegionpdx.com in advance to let Loyal Legion be aware of your intentions.
