On the heels of launching a new holiday seasonal Saturday brunch, Deschutes Brewery Portland Public House has just revealed its new food menu. Designed by Executive Chef Jill Ramseier, this new menu features a curated selection of locally-sourced, scratch-made dishes that pair perfectly with the brewery’s exciting lineup of 26 beers on tap.

The new menu features pub classics that one comes to expect from Deschutes Brewery, such as its Elk Burger, Dungeness Crab Roll, Steak & Bacon Burger and the always enjoyable IPA Pretzel that’s served with a side of warm cheese and mustard.

Deschutes’ new dinner menu includes a land and sea entrée selection, which offers a choice of Cedar River Flat Iron Steak, Cedar River Boneless Ribeye, DB Meatloaf made with elk, beef and bacon, Fish & Family Wild Alaskan Coho, Jumbo Sea Scallops or Wild Mushrooms en croute. Each entree comes with a choice of gnocchi, a butternut squash risotto topped with hazelnut sage, three cheese mashed potatoes with bacon gravy, herb frites, brussels sprouts or mixed vegetables.

“As a chef, it’s so much fun to adapt to the seasons and be able to offer great food that is made from scratch to our customers and community,” stated Executive Chef Jill Ramseier. “We have had a great response to the new menu, and pairing these local, seasonal items with our award-winning craft beers makes for a memorable experience that we are proud to offer.”

Last week we made a visit to check out selections from the new menu and were impressed. We started out with a couple of pints of Bachelor Bitter served from the beer engine. This nice Bitter is brewed in Bend and travels across the Cascades to be served on cask. So glad to see the beer engine back in service here at the Portland pub!

After settling in we perused the specials. Yes, the daily specials continue even with the updated menu! We ended up settling on the Housemade Sausage for an appetizer. The night’s sausage was Fresh Haze Mango Jalapeño served with Carrot-Cucumber Slaw and Tajin Crisps. It was perfect for sharing and set us up nicely for our evening’s carnivorous meal.

When it came to our entrees, we went with the 7oz Cedar River Flat Iron Steak and an old brewpub standby, the DB Meatloaf. Then choosing a side for each of these was challenging with so many great options of gnocchi, three cheese mashed potatoes with bacon gravy, herb frites, brussels sprouts or mixed vegetables. Our choice was the mashed potatoes for each entrée.

The Cedar River Flat Iron Steak was served just as ordered and arrived sliced by the kitchen. The seasoning and the flavor of the meat was to die for. Made with elk, beef, and bacon, the DB Meatloaf was lean and dense while still being very flavorful. Then the Three Cheese Mashed Potatoes with bacon gravy was the perfect side dish. We did not leave hungry!

But these two dishes are only a small portion of what the new menu at Deschutes offers. Here are a few other Pub Favorites that are inspired by and made with Deschutes’ signature beers:

  • Sausage Ravioli made with our Black Butte Porter Bacon-Gouda Sausage, cheese ravioli, sundried tomato, cream sauce, walnut bread crumb and parsley.

  • Chicken & Dumplings, a chicken and vegetable stew filled with Mirror Pond Pale Ale sourdough dumplings and fried chicken breast.
