Fort George Adds Sherman IPA & Electric Surfboard IIPA to Year-Round Lineup
|Out in Astoria, Oregon, Fort George Brewery has recently added two new IPAs to its year-round lineup of beer. One is Sherman IPA, that’s packaged in 6-pack, 12oz cans and the other is Electric Surfboard Double IPA packaged in 4-pack, 16oz cans.
Being recognized while on the job is always a pleasant accolade. One thing that can even outdo this is having a beer named after you for your team’s efforts. Fort George recognizes the boldest, zestiest, most outstanding employees with a prestigious award: The Sherman. Polishing the tap handles – that’s a Sherman. Knocking out pizzas for a surprise 40-top on a busy Saturday night – Sherman. Going the extra mile – that’s a Sherman.
Sherman IPA is the brewery’s Employee of the Year Beer. It’s brewed with Great Western 2 Row and FM Flaked Wheat and a hop bill of Ekuanot, Indie Strata, and Luminosa. The result is well filtered IPA at 6.5% ABV that is full of tropical flavors the lead you back to grabbing another can from the 6-pack.
Fort George’s other new release, Electric Surfboard Double IPA, is one that is quite bold and lives up to its Double IPA billing as it comes in at 9% ABV. It takes its name from the new electric surfboards that we have seen zipping down the Willamette River this past summer,
Electric Surfboard Double IPA takes on a malt bill of Rahr Pilsner, Grain Miller’s Flaked Wheat, and Briess Carapils. It’s generously hopped with Apollo, Ekuanot, Mosaic, and Simcoe while using Kaiser German Alt yeast.
From sampling Electric Surfboard Double IPA, this one is quite bold and lives up to its billing as a Double IPA. The hops are quite evident in the beer’s flavor profile but with this 9% ABV comes a slight sweetness in the finish.
