Threshold Brewing to Host the 2025 Baltic Porter Invitational
|Baltic Porter, the beer that was fit for Catherine the Great of Russia, will be the featured beer when Threshold Brewing hosts it inaugural Baltic Porter Invitational! Coinciding with the 10th annual International Baltic Porter Day, the Threshold Brewing’s Baltic Porter Invitational will take place on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from Noon – 9:00pm.
During the event, the Baltic Porter will be the highlight with versions being served from 10 different Pacific Northwest breweries. The list of breweries includes Threshold’s award winning Neptune Baltic Porter and guest taps from Single Hill Brewing, Wander Brewing, Away Days, Zoiglhaus Brewing, ForeLand Beer, Little Beast Brewing and more.
In addition, Threshold will be serving its famous Zapiekanka – a pizza-reminiscent Polish street food – and its full Pierogi menu of stuffed dumplings including Potato and Farmer’s Cheese, Caramelized Onion and Potato, and Mushroom and Cabbage.
Then at 2:00pm in the brewhouse, there will be a Polish bottle share. There’ll be a selection of Polish imports thanks to special guest Pawel Pilat, owner of Poland’s first privately owned hop breeding program Polish Hops. Guests are welcome to bring their own Polish beer to the share as well for all to enjoy!
The history of the Baltic Porter dates back to the late 1700s, when London’s Henry Thrale’s Anchor Brewery shipped its warm-fermented, strong dark Porter to the Baltic countries. Eventually, breweries in these countries adopted this beer style but mixed it up as a cold-fermented beer while continuing the beer’s stronger than average alcohol content.
Then in the 19th century many Polish breweries adopted the Baltic Porter as their own with Poland’s oldest version, Zywiec 1881 Baltic Porter, still being produced. The beer style offers up a complex malt character and flavor notes of caramel, toffee and dried fruit. It’s a perfect beer to enjoy during a winter day. It’s stronger than a traditional English Porter, typically sitting at an 8% ABV or higher.
Also, add the date of Saturday, February 8, 2025 to your calendar as Threshold Brewing will celebrate its 6th anniversary on this date. There will be 6th anniversary collaboration beers brewed with Grand Fir Brewing and Migration Brewing, and a special Barbecue collaboration menu with Grand Fir Brewing’s Chef Doug Adams!
