Eugene Beer Week 2012

In less than a week, Eugene, Oregon’s 2nd Annual Beer Week will be underway. Featuring more than 35 events, this seven day celebration of the city’s rich craft beer culture has begun to really take shape. Here’s a look at some of the events that will take place from May 7-13, 2012:

Beer Week Opening Day! All-day Ninkasi Critical Hit Tapping and Cascadia Wildlands Fundraiser, 12-9 p.m. At 12 p.m., Ninkasi taps a keg of 2009 Critcal Hit to celebrate the opening of Eugene Beer Week. Monday is also Ninkasi’s Pints for a Cause Night, with 25% of all pint sales going to Cascadia Wildlands. The Whiskey Chasers are on stage live from 6-8 p.m. You can also test your trivia knowledge for prizes at our trivia night. Imbibe, celebrate, and support your community—all in one!

2012 Eugene Beer Week May 7-13, 2012Ninkasi Sensory Classes with Jamie Floyd, 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. How do you taste a beer both from an analytical perspective and in a way that maximizes your brain’s ability to remember flavors and aromas? Come learn the basics of sensory evaluation and beer tasting with Jamie Floyd, Founder and Owner of Eugene’s Ninkasi Brewing Company. The same class is offered at 2 different times, and admission is free. We will also cover how gustation (the sense and act of tasting), olfaction (the sense and act of smell), and your trigeminal nerve (which controls certain motions and sensations) work together to create our sensory perception of every sip of beer. We will meet at the Ninkasi Tasting Room and then travel over to the nearby Sensory Lab for the class. Space is limited to 18 students per class.

Falling Sky Cloud Break Munich Helles Release Party, 4 p.m. Come down and try our first lager, Cloud Break Munich Helles. Right at home in a Traditional German Beer Hall, Munich Helles is the most prominent lager brewed in Bavaria and enjoyed year-round. Catch that glimpse of sunshine with the soft malt character from Best Malz Heidelburg, Weyermann Munich I, Weyermann CaraFoam, and a delicate hop spiciness from Horizon and Organic German Tettnang hops. Cloud Break clocks in with an OG of 1.046, 21 IBUs and a mellow 4.7% ABV. Completed by a refined finish and elegant drinkability, you’ll forget the clouds will ever come back. The forecast calls for Helles to start pouring at 4 p.m.!
