On Tuesday, September 5, 2023, The BeerMongers, Portland’s beloved taproom and beer store, will celebrate a major milestone. Between its original and new location, The BeerMongers will be open for 5113 consecutive days come September 5th! This day also happens to be its 14th Anniversary so expect some fun revelry.

However, the celebration begins this week on Wednesday, August 30 with seven days of some fun, beer-filled events! These seven days will be filled with plenty of themed events that kick off with a Bottleshare that’s followed by Trappist Beers, Hoppy Lagers, Hoppy Ales, Saisons and a send off to the California Common that was created by the now shuttered Anchor Brewing Company.

Through its nearly 14 years, The BeerMongers have seen plenty of changes and have grown into a popular spot for beer fans to hang out and enjoy the camaraderie of its staff and patrons. But just like other businesses, the past few years have been challenging ones for Sean Campbell, owner of The BeerMongers. With COVID and then a relocation around the block just one year ago, the beer bar and store is finally settling in to its new home at 2415 SE 11th Ave! Through it all, Sean has kept the doors open each day. Maybe this should be called The BeerMongers Beer Week?

Here’s a list of what to expect each of the seven days as told to us from the head BeerMonger, Sean Campbell…

2009 Bottleshare
Wednesday, August 30th
Every Wednesday we host a causal bottleshare. We encourage our customers to bring special, out of market and vintage beers to share with us and their friends. For this 14th Anniversary Share we are asking the hoarders amongst us to reach deep in their cellars for beers from 2009. As a group we will determine the best 14-year-old beer.

Trappist Beer
Thursday, August 31st
At The BeerMongers we have an affinity for the unique beers made in the Tappist tradition. For this evening we will have a flight of three Rochefort beers 6, 8 and 10 plus a special draft pour of Westmalle Dubbel and vintage Orval. The tasting flight will be paired with cheese from Cow Bell in SE Portland.

Hop Forward Lagers
Friday, September 1st
In the past two years there has been an explosive growth in the Lager category and we are loving it at the Mongers. To celebrate this development we will be featuring Italian Style Pilsners, West Coast Pilsners and Fresh Hop Lagers. Expect beers from Living Haus, Fracture, Chuckanut and more.

Hop Forward Ales, Hearth & Soul Pizza, and Timbers
Saturday, September 2nd
It is our opinion that nothing pairs better with Pizza than a hoppy ale. Today we will feature Hop forward IPAs, Pale Ales and Fresh Hop Ales. Expect hoppy beers from Barley Brown’s, Breakside, Grains of Wrath, Baerlic and more. The  Hearth & Soul Pizza Bus will be serving up some of the best wood fired pizza in town 4-8pm. Our beloved Timbers will take on our arch rivals the Seattle Sounders at 7:30pm.

Saison x Terrible Trivia
Sunday September 3rd
We welcome our friends Terrible Trivia (Mark & Alek) back to host an evening of trivia and saison. We are fortunate to have some the best and most unique saison brewers in the country here in Oregon. We will have beers from Upright, DuPont, Ale Apothecary and some very special draft and bottles from Portland’s own Nebuleus. Trivia starts at 5pm, beer all day!

Customer Appreciation Day $5 Pints All Day
Monday September 4th
We will host a casual cook out in our outdoor space and be serving up $5 pints. According to our records in 2009 we occasionally had $3 pints!

The Big Day 5113 in a Row!
Tuesday September 5th
We certainly did not expect to make it to 5113 days in a row. To celebrate we will tap our last keg of Anchor Steam plus a homage made by our friends at Upright Brewing, a California Common. There will be beer specials all day and a “High Stakes” cribbage tournament at 6pm.

And arrive hungry from Wednesday through Saturday as The Mongers’ resident sandwich maestro, Ninth & Fitzwater, will be slinging hoagies from 4:00-8:00pm each of these days. If you haven’t had the experience of consuming one of Brad’s hoagies, you’re definitely in for a treat!

Cheers to Sean and his excellent staff on 14 memorable years!
