Stone Brewing Returns with Stone Sublimely Self Righteous Black IPA

Through the years, Stone Brewing has released so many varieties of beer but one of its most popular beers finally makes a return to taps and store shelves this spring. Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Black IPA, the brewery’s #1 most fan-requested beer of all time, has returned! This hop driven IPA is brewed with dark malt so that it pours black with a surprising punch of bitterness balanced by smooth malty character. 

Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Black IPA features unmistakable piney and orange-raspberry hop character perfectly complemented by warm notes of coffee and chocolate. On the nose – aromas of coffee, black currant and chocolate from the malt, layered with pine, citrus and tropical fruit. As its name implies, it pours black with a light tan head but don’t be deceived! It serves up an IPA-worthy dose of bitterness. It is as unique in style as it is memorable flavor.

Stone’s persistent troop of mighty fans revived this 2007 favorite. A short scroll through Stone’s Instagram confirms the sheer volume of “BRING BACK SSR” comments. After a special release return in 2021, Stone decided that it’s time to say “OK” once more.

When people experience this beer for the first time it’s like they can’t grasp how something with such distinct piney hop flavor pours so dark, but the coffee and chocolate notes complement amazingly. Our fans can’t seem to get enough of this beer, so we’ve gone ahead and brewed them some more, but only for another short run!”
