Zupan’s Markets & Living Haus Beer Collaborate On Farm-To-Market Japanese Style Lager

The 29th installment of Zupan’s Markets Farm-to-Market beer series has landed at all three of the grocer’s stores in the Portland metro area. For this release, the family-owned gourmet grocer partnered with Portland’s Living Häus Beer Co on the easy-drinking Farm-To-Market Japanese Style Lager.

Described as being light and crisp with floral and berry notes, the Japanese Style Lager offers a refreshing palate-cleansing finish.  Traditionally, Japanese lagers feature a high amount of flaked rice (about 20% in this case). This less fermentable rice creates a light, lower alcohol beer with a crisp body and clean finish.

The Living Häus Beer Co Japanese Style Lager is light straw yellow with a fluffy white head, and is made with Tettnang hops and Pilsner Malt. The result is a light bready aroma with notes of slightly fruity hops to the nose.  With a 5.2% ABV, this lager pairs well with grilled salmon with ponzu sauce, spicy seared ahi tuna or crisp tempura vegetables served with wasabi and soy sauce.

The Farm-To-Market Japanese Style Lager is available exclusively at Zupan’s Markets in 16oz cans that are priced at $3.99/can, four-packs are available for $14.99.

To help promote this new Japanese Style Lager, Zupan’s Markets Burnside location will host a Rice Beers Tasting event on Sunday, May 19, 2024 beginning at 2:00pm. Participants will taste imported and domestically made Rice Beers to gain an appreciation for this amazingly diverse style of beer. Entry is $40 and includes a tasting of 8-10 beers, plus cheese, charcuterie & beer snacks.
