Killer Pumpkin Fest 2012 at the Green Dragon was even bigger and better than it was last year. With more than 30 pumpkin beers to choose from spanning many base beer styles, there was a little something for everyone, provided you enjoy pumpkin in your brew. With the exception of Elysian’s Great Pumpkin Fest in Seattle, the Green Dragon event was the largest of its kind anywhere in the world.

L to R: Rogue's Brett Joyce, Brewpublic's Angelo De Ieso, and Elysian's Dick Cantwell at Killer Pumpkin Fest 2012 at Green Dragon (photo by Charlie Herrin of Beer Traveler TV)Speaking of Elysian, the Seattle brewery came with force with a dozen pumpkin brews of their own. Chief Pumpkineer, Dick Cantwell was in attendance for the event to spread the gourd-eous goods. The buzz beer of the event appeared to be Cascade Brewing‘s Smashed Pumpkin, a sour rum barrel-aged strong ale that disappeared quickly. There were pumpkin pilsners (Elysian, 10 Barrel Brewing), pumpkin porters (Oakshire, Beer Valley Brewing), and even a pumpkin IPA (Hop Squash made by Elysian and Ninkasi Brewing). Other highlights included Hopworks Urban Brewery‘s El Gourdo II: Electric Boogaloo, a pumpkin conditioned ale with vanilla, Walking Man’s Sass-Squash, and Rock Bottom’s Headless Horseman. But really, all the beers were at very least quite interesting.

Here’s a collection of photos from this year’s Killer Pumpkin Fest. Thanks to the craft beer lovers at Green Dragon and Rogue for their hard work in helping us put together on hell of an event: Read More…

KillerBeerWeek crew representing at Roscoe's Pub

The madness begins. 10 days of Killer Beer has kicked off, and if you missed the opening KillerBeerSummit / MikeFest at Roscoe’s, there’s still plenty of great beer to experience throughout the week / weekend.

KillerBeerWeek kicked off early on Saturday as we celebrated Saraveza’s 4th Anniversary with the grand opening of their Bad Habit room next door. Great beer, as is to be expected, and a special Saraveza deer cake made by Lori Adams Clinton aka the Sugar Pimp.

At Roscoe’s on Sunday night, Jeremy Lewis and Quyen Ly worked with us to lock in 16 taps of amazing limited edition brew including several Mike beers brewed by and for Mikes / Michaels / Micahs of the beer community.

-Buckman Botanical Brewery Michaelob Ultra
-Stout brewed with cherries, hazelnuts & nutmeg. (Mike “Shoes” Higgins)
-Fort George Brewing Polish’s Dry Hopped Amber Ale (Mike “Polish” Frankowicz)
-Vertigo Brewing Friar Mike’s IPA (Mike Haines & Michael Kinion)
-The Commons Menkel Belgian Single with Rye and Spelt (Mike Wright)
-Laurelwood Micah’s Firkin Workhorse IPA (Micah Bell and Mike DeKalb)
-Migration Mike-gration Scottish Ale (Michael Branes)

No Sleep Till Portland

Roscoe's co-founder Jeremy Lewis

KillerBeerWeek kicks off Sunday October 21 at Roscoe’s Pub and rocks on for eight days. Here’s a rap parody done to the tune of The Beastie Boys “No Sleep Till Brooklyn.”

No sleep till Portland
Yeastie Boys Pot Kettle BlackFoot on the pedal, never ever false metal
Engine running hotter than a brewing kettle
My job ain’t a job, it’s a damn good time
City to city, I’m running taplines
On location, touring around the nation
Brewpublic always on vacation
Itchy kegger finger but a stable bier de table
I do what I do best because I’m distilling and able
Ain’t no faking, your brews I’m taking
Across Cascadia, watching all the beer geeks shaking
While you’re at the job working nine to five
The Brewpublic crew at Roscoe’s, cold kickin’ it live
No sleep till Read More…

Killer Pumpkin Beer: Oakshire Big Black Jack Imperial Chocolate Pumpkin Porter

Big Black Jack Imperial Chocolate Pumpkin Porter

T
he arrival of autumn means a lot of things for craft beer lovers in North America. Oktoberfestbiers and  Märzens, fresh hopped brews, and of course, a particular favorite of ours, pumpkin beers. On Monday October 22, 2012, Brewpublic is teaming up with the Green Dragon Pub in Portland, OR for the return of KillerPumpkinFest, Oregon’s largest pumpkin beer festival. As the date grows closer, we anticipate the various base styles that will represent this gourd-eous fruit beer category. A particular highlight, unquestionably, will be Oakshire Brewing‘s Big Jack Imperial Chocolate Pumpkin Porter.
This spiced cocoa-infused pumpkin ale represents the latest from the Eugene brewhouse’s Single Batch Series, headed by Brewmaster Matt Van Wyk and founding brewer Jeff Althouse. Here’s the full details from Oakshire:

Killer Pumpkin Beers On the Way!

Laurelwood Stingy Jack Pumpkin Ale returns on August 22, 2012

It’s been said before, seasonal beer releases seem to arrive earlier and earlier. Jubelale or Bi-Frost anyone? Still, you can’t deny that one of the most consoling parts of summer ending is the arrival of the autumn seasonals that are perfect to enjoy while peeping colorful leaves or relaxing while taking in some football on the tube.

A very polarizing style of beer is unquestionably the pumpkin ale. This gourd-eous brew category brings a spectrum of spice and fruit flavors to the palate. We’re already getting fired up about a few that are already in production. In late October, Brewpublic is teaming up with the Green Dragon once again to bring Portland another KillerPumpkinFest. This will be a part of our annual KillerBeerWeek that will come to a grand finale at Bailey’s Taproom on October 27.  More details to come!
