Sending the gift of craft beer to friends and family members that live a fair distance away can be a challenge, especially with the shipping laws that forbid this action. BeerGifts.com is an online retailer that caters to this growing market. BeerGifts.com offers beer gifts exclusively focusing on all the different varieties and themes for gift giving including beer gift baskets, beer of the month clubs, homebrew kits, beer glasses and more. Carefully packed, each gift item is sent with a gift card with the sender’s custom greeting.
The idea of BeerGifts.com began back in 2006 from Jonn Ashton, but it wasn’t until two years later that he began to ship out these beer related items from his home base in Santa Fe, New Mexico. When asked the reason for opening BeerGifts.com, Ashton replied, “We noticed that there was not a lot of beer related gifts available for gifting occasions and wanted to bring our love and passion for all things beer to the gift giving industry.”
One challenge with any retail business is the selection of products to carry. BeerGifts.com offers a varied amount of items. “A combination of long standing classic brews and new up and coming smaller breweries that are brewing amazing beers,” writes Ashton. “But it’s more than just beer. “It’s always fun to find new products that are manufactured with beer or beer themed on our buying trips at trade shows and travels and builds new gifts around them. We also pick items that we would enjoy receiving as a beer gift.”
Knowing that there are many states that forbid beer being shipped into its state we were surprised that only six states forbid BeerGifts.com. The 44 states that do allow his business includes Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
Ashton recently reached out to us and sent his company’s West Coast IPA Six Pack Cooler to try out. This six-pack consisted of IPAs from Lagunitas Brewing, Stone Brewing, BridgePort Brewing, Mendocino Brewing, Deschutes Brewery, and Ballast Point Brewing all packed in a nice heavy-duty navy blue neoprene insulated cooler. For us here in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest we can easily find these beers on the shelves. However, in other parts of the country this can prove to be quite the challenge so this is where Ashton’s business can really step in to assist.
So what lies ahead for BeerGifts.com? “We will continue to source new and creative beer related products and gifts to offer to our customers and support smaller brewers and companies that manufacture all things beer,” states Ashton.
