A new lager has joined the year-round lineup from Bell’s Brewery. The Michigan based brewer has revamped its Lager of the Lakes and has appropriately renamed it as Lager for the Lakes. This new lager is brewed as a way to celebrate the Great Lakes in the United States by taking action to protect our freshwater treasures.

With the launch of Lager for the Lakes, Bell’s Brewery is supporting the Alliance for the Great Lakes – a nonpartisan nonprofit organization working across the region to protect the fresh, clean and natural waters of the Great lakes. Fans are encouraged to join Bell’s in this effort by participating in Alliance for the Great Lakes’ Adopt-A-Beach program.

The new Lager for the Lakes is an easy drinking, crisp lager that’s perfect for a summer day, or any day for that matter, when you’re looking for a lighter, sessionable beer. This one is a true lager brewed with noble hop flavors as its predecessor, Lager of the Lakes, was a Bohemian Pilsner. Lager for the Lakes sits at just 4.8% ABV and 20 IBUs.

This year, Bell’s will contribute $25,000 to the Alliance for the Great Lakes. In addition, drinkers can scan a QR code on every can of Lager for the Lakes to join in Bell’s’ longstanding commitment to protecting clean water resources by participating in the Alliance’s Adopt-A-Beach program, which enables organizations and individual volunteers to work together in preventing plastic waste from polluting the Great Lakes.

Together, Bell’s and Alliance for the Great Lakes will host two beach clean-up events this summer, both of which fans are encouraged to join.  Details and registration instructions for these events will be released at a later date, on both the Alliance for the Great Lakes and Bell’s Brewery websites.

“For the name, we added exactly one letter. But behind that small change is an entirely new beer we think will fill our summertime memories for years to come – as well as a far deeper story around protecting the lakes that give us so much,” said Carrie Yunker, Executive Vice President at Bell’s Brewery. “Bell’s has made major investments in clean water initiatives for years, but we still face big threats to human health, millions of jobs, and future generations’ ability to enjoy these vital resources. So consider this our highly drinkable invitation to Bell’s fans: Join us in taking action to protect the Great Lakes at the heart of this great place we call home!”

This initiative builds on Bell’s longstanding commitment to water stewardship (among other key issues). Through its Inspired Giving philanthropy program in 2022, Bell’s donated $100,000 in Inspired Giving grants to 24 grassroots nonprofits working on clean water issues across the nation.  Bell’s expects a similar total for 2023 above and beyond the brewery’s special funding announcement.

In addition to providing public coastlines and waters for millions of residents and visitors to enjoy freely (cold beer in hand), the Great Lakes contain one-third of the world’s surface freshwater, provide drinking water for 28 million people (including 6% percent of the U.S. population), and support 1.3 million jobs and generate $82 billion in wages annually through tourism, recreation, transportation, and more.
