Double Mountain Releases 2014 Devil’s Kriek, Tahoma Kriek, and Pêche Mode
Hood River, OR—July 15, 2015—In addition to the much anticipated bottle release of the 2014 vintage of the Devil’s and Tahoma (Rainier) Kriek Sour Ales brewed with Cherries, Double Mountain has added a third beer to their sour ales line up with Pêche Mode brewed with Peaches. The sour series will be available on draft and in custom designed 375ml (12.7oz) split champagne bottles for purchase at Double Mountain Brewery & Taproom located in downtown Hood River on Thursday, July 16th upon opening at 11am. A supply of Kriek bottles will be available July 16th in specialty bottle shops throughout the Northwest, British Columbia, and Southern California. The Pêche Mode will be distributed into the market the first week of August.

Devil’s Kriek – 2014 Flanders Red Sour Ale with cherries
9% ABV, 9 BU

Cherry season is upon us once again, and that means it’s time to peer into the tanks that have been sitting in the cellar for the last year or so. When we checked in on this slumbering beauty we found her to be funky, refreshingly tart, and devilishly deep crimson. Local Bing and Van cherries from the Double Mountain Orchard in the Columbia Gorge lend the color and a juicy character. Kept at cellar temperature on whole fruit for 12 months, and served in its own glass.
Tahoma Kriek – 2014 American Style Brett Beer with Cherries
10.3% ABV, 10 BU
Brewed June 2014; released July 2014
The Tahoma Kriek uses a strong Belgian Blonde ale for a base prior to the addition of local Rainier Cherries. Our house yeast strains and Brettanomyces Lambicus, were allowed free reign to develop its sour and complex character, resulting in a stronger, more bracingly tart and juicy ale than the more classic beers in the style. This beauty was kept at cellar temperatures on the whole fruit for 13 months. Best enjoyed with a good cheese and better company.
Pêche Mode – 2014 Belgian Style Sour Ale with Peaches
8.6% ABV, 7 BU

It was last September when we received the news that Mt. View Orchards in Parkdale, OR had somewhat of a bumper crop of peaches. We took this as a sign to bring back an old favorite. The Pêche Mode makes a triumphant return this year with nearly 500 pounds of peaches added to a Strong Belgian Ale base, and then inoculated with Brettanomyces. We gave it nine months to relax and think. The result is a peachy, farmhouse paradise. Lightly tart and refreshing, this one drinks easy. When life hands you peaches, make beer!
