Former Walking Man and Widmer Brewer Jacob Leonard Joins Breakside Brewery
|In a region where brewers change teams more than ball players in the free agency era, another big name Portland brewer has announced he will be joining the ranks of a young, popular, and quickly rising brewery. It was recently announced that Jacob Leonard, 33, known best for his work at Walking Man Brewing in Stevenson, WA where he was a recipient of the 2007 Glen Hay Falconer Scholarship in conjunction with Siebel Institute of Technology, will soon be a co-brewmaster at Breakside Brewery in Portland. Most recently, Leonard took on a production brewer position at the end of 2010 with Widmer Brothers and Craft Brew Alliance of Portland, OR. Today the word came down from Breakside brewmaster Ben Edmunds that Leonard would be on board with the quickly growing brewery.
“I’m very excited to let you all know that Jacob Leonard will be joining the brewing staff at Breakside as the Production Manager and Co-Brewmaster of our new facility” says Edmunds. “He’ll be joining us officially in September, and we’ll be throwing him a ‘welcome party’ that month when we debut the first beer he brews here. More details on all of that to follow.”
Leonard’s replacement at Walking Man, Dan Munch, recently accepted a position with Widmer/CBA as a production brewer and was replaced by former Portland Rock Bottom brewer Bolt Minister. Best of luck to all the brewers in their new positions.
Two of the nicest, and talented, brewers under the same roof… is their a law against that? Congrats Jacob, Ben and the whole Breakside crew!
Just when you thought Breakside couldn’t get more awesome they go and do this. Can’t wait to see what Ben and Jacob conjure up
Speaking of Walking Man, what happened? Used to really enjoy their beer. I’ve had 3 different brews of theirs at various places over the past few months and its all been terrible. It tastes like bad homebrew. Saw some last night but luckily had a taster first. Horrible!!
