Ale-Struck: A Night for All Beer Lovers

Vancouver’s By The Bottle will be hosting Alestruck – A Night for All Beer Lovers beginning on Wednesday, February 12th. Alestruck is a trio of beer events taking place this week on Wednesday, Thursday, and wrapping up just in time to celebrate Valentine’s Day on Friday. These events will feature a Double IPA blind tasting, Belgian beer and sweets pairing, and a stout and cheesecake pairing.

Wednesday, February 12, 2014, 3p-6p (also Happy hour)
Tasting fee: $12.00 per person, only cash will be accepted
At the Old Ivy Taproom, blind taste a flight of five different bottled double IPA’S. Then, choose your favorite without knowing the brand. So, this isn’t a contest where you have to guess what the beers are. This is simply a fun way of finding out what your palate really enjoys without any preconceived notions of brand identity. Your palate may surprise you! A tasting note sheet will be provided to help you rate and select your favorite.  Since this event takes place during Happy Hour, your tasting fee includes your choice of one of these Happy Hour food items:(2) Couvano Sliders, OR, (1) Chicken Quesadilla, OR, (1) Soft Pretzel with mustard.

Hang out after the tasting for a pint and live music that usually starts around 6pm ish.

ALESTRUCK: CHEERS TO BELGIAN BEERS & SWEETS

Tasting fee: $15.00 per person, only cash will be accepted

Beer can be mind-blowing with sweets. Even without  a lot of experience in pairing beer with sweets, it’s not that hard to put together a magical pairing. With this experience you will be able to create up to nine different flavor combinations comprised of a trio of strong dark Belgian beers and a threesome of various sweets. A tasting note sheet listing the beers and the sweets is for your personal notes and to reference for your future pairing ideas to entertain your guests.

Beer can take on any wine, spirit or mixed drink and come out taking the gold medal for matching with dessert for a far more superior taste experience. Create your own flavor and texture combinations comprised of a slice of classic cheesecake with a trio of toppings to mix and match with a threesome of spectacular stouts. A “side” of Lindemans Framboise Lambic adds to the mixology and countless flavor combinations. A note sheet will be provided to track your favorite combos to impress your friends at your next party.
