With just one weekend until Labor Day Weekend, summer appears to be fading away. But along with this comes hop harvest and fresh hop season. These unique beers are beginning to hit tap lists across the state of Oregon. On Friday, Hopworks Brewery taps this season’s Fresh Hop Abominable. This is just one of many that are hitting tap lists across the region.

This evening the Hillsboro Hops host the team’s final Craft Beer Night for the 2023 season. Prior to the first pitch at 7:05 the Hops will host local breweries for a free tasting when gates open at 6:00pm. Participating breweries include Breakside Brewery, Fort George Brewery, Pelican Brewing, Portland Cider, Time Travelers Brewing, Oak Union Brewing, Backwoods Brewing, Laurelwood Brewing, Binary Brewing, Full Sail Brewing, Slowdrift Brewing, Ancestry Brewing and Public Coast Brewing. Sounds like a perfect evening to catch the Hops in action against the Eugene Emeralds.

If baseball is not your thing, we’ve compiled a list of events taking place over the next week from Portland to the Oregon Coast to Bend and more!

Mayfly Taproom Kölsch Fest
Friday, August 25 – Saturday, August 26
Now in its third year, Mayfly Taroom and Bottle Shop is set to host its annual Mayfly Kölsch Fest. The North Portland taproom will feature Kölsch style beers from a dozen local breweries in a competition where patrons will vote on their favorite beer. The weekend long event will also feature live music, food vendors, and more!

The Mayfly Kölsch Fest competition is a bit different as it will not be one that will be won by brewery name recognition as the breweries will be battling it out through a blind-tasting competition that is judged by Mayfly’s guests. With the entire event being a blind tasting, not even the breweries or distribution reps will know which beer is theirs.

Guests will have the opportunity to purchase a tasting package to take part in the festivities. Each package includes two different rounds of six 3-oz. tasters. Guests will then choose their favorite two beers from each round and receive a final tray with their top four choices to determine their favorite overall Kölsch. Once the tasting is complete, they will receive a full pour of their top Kölsch in a custom 2023 Mayfly Kölsch Fest Glass that they can keep.

At the end of the weekend, all votes will be tabulated to determine which Kölsch received the most top votes to become the 2023 Mayfly Kölsch Fest Champ.

Every tasting package includes the entire Kölsch tasting, the custom 2023 .3L Mayfly Kölsch Fest glass to be filled with the guest’s #1 Kölsch pick, and a Dos Hermanos Bakery soft pretzel with mustard. Each guest will also have the opportunity to guess which Kölsch they chose as their top beer and if correct, they’ll receive a $10 Mayfly Gift Card!

Ecliptic + Maui Brewing Bay Breeze Pineapple IPA Release Party
Wednesday, August 30 – 5:00-8:00pm
The latest Cosmic Collaboration beer will make its Portland debut on Wednesday as the new Ecliptic + Maui Brewing Bay Breeze Pineapple IPA will be tapped and available in cans. The release party will begin at 5:00pm at the Ecliptic Brewing Moon Room and then will move over to Belmont Station at 6:30pm.

Bay Breeze Pineapple IPA hits like a warm solar wind after a long day spent in a cold space suit. With loads of pineapple puree balanced against a fruit-forward and subtly piney blend of Sabro, El Dorado and Chinook hops, we rounded things out with a bit of coconut for an extra layer of tropical bliss.

Since this beer was brewed in collaboration with Maui Brewing, Ecliptic Brewing is making this beer a fundraiser for the relief efforts for the devastating wildfires that went through a portion of Maui Island. Ecliptic will be donating $1 from every pint of Bay Breeze Pineapple IPA sold through its pubs to Legacy of Aloha, supporting Maui Brewing employees who have lost their homes or been temporarily displaced.

This $1 per pint donation will include all pints of the collaboration sold at Belmont Station during the event, and will be matched by Belmont Station.
