Mt Tabor Brewing Closes Down Operations
Earlier today we noticed a posting on social media from Mt Tabor Brewing that it has closed its operations in both Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington. The brewery, led by Eric Surface, brewed its beers in inner Southeast Portland and operated a pub and restaurant in Northwest Vancouver.
Mt Tabor Brewing was founded in 2009 by Surface and his friend Brian Maher and began releasing its beers in 2010. At first the brewery set up shop on the eastside of Mt. Tabor in the Montavilla neighborhood. After Maher left the operations about a year later, Surface relocated the brewery to Vancouver for a few years before expanding into a new production brewery in Portland.
Surface opened this new 15-barrel production brewery in 2016 with longtime Oregon brewer Ben Dobler on the brewdeck. Dobler’s time at Mt Tabor was short lived and Rodney Stryker was hired later that year to run the brewhouse. This same year, Surface opened Mt Tabor Brewing and Pizza in Vancouver’s Felida neighborhood. Now eight years after this expansion, the brewery and pub have shuttered its operations.

After 8 incredible years, it’s with mixed emotions that we announce the closing of Mt Tabor Brewing. This journey has been more than just brewing beer—it’s been about building a community, sharing stories, and creating memories with each and every one of you.
We want to extend our deepest gratitude to all of our loyal patrons, passionate staff, and supportive neighbors who have been a part of this adventure. Your enthusiasm, feedback, and companionship have been the heart of our success, and we’re profoundly grateful for the support you’ve shown us over the years.
As we close this chapter, we’re reflecting on the countless good times we’ve had.
Thank you once again for being a part of our story. We couldn’t have done it without you! Here’s to the next great adventure—cheers to all of you!
