Here in the United States many of us think of Foster’s Lager when someone mentions Australian beer. Just as craft beer continues its momentum around the globe it is also doing so in the Land Down Under.
Australian Brewery based in Sydney, Australia is now exporting its beer to the United States and Canada. So far Australian Brewery has been exporting its New World Pilsner, Pale Ale, and Saison D’Heretique.
Its Head Brewer Daniel Shaw leads the brewing operations at Australian Brewery. Shaw has worked for the family owned brewery for the past decade and has won awards for his beers from across the globe. Most recently the brewery was awarded 3 Gold and 2 Bronze medals at the 2017 Australian International Beer Awards.
All three offerings live up to the style at hand but the New World Pilsner seemed to offer up the best in style and taste of the three. Both the New World Pilsner and the Pale Ale are quality sessionable beers at only 4.8% ABV and offer a full body of flavor.
This all said, how will an import brand that is shipping all of its beers a fair amount of distance compare to a locally produced beer that will not suffer the same shipping fatigue? In the end the consumer will be the ultimate judge of the success or lack there of.
Here are the beer descriptions for its three U.S. offerings from Australian Brewery.
NEW WORLD PILSNER
Inspired by the classic crisp and bitter pilsners of Germany, The Australian Brewery Pilsner takes the palest Australian malts and interweaves the bite and aroma of new world hops. Enjoy a classic German style pilsner with a twist; the spicy NZ and citrus American hops generate an enticing aroma and a crisp peppery bitterness that balances a rounded malt profile.
ABV 4.8% IBU 36
AUSTRALIAN PALE ALE
Inspired by the Australian pacific pale ale style, this cloudy pale beer is to be admired before immersing yourself in the rich aromas of citrus and passionfruit that only galaxy hops can give. This characteristically cloudy Australian ale is crisp and refreshing, full of truly distinctive aromas that make For a perfect mix of flavour and drinkability.
ABV 4.8% IBU 26
This is a saintly saison, lovingly crafted with both French & Belgian yeasts generating a delicate and light beer that packs a hefty punch of white pepper, clove and citrus on the palate with licorice, clove, citrus and pepper on the aroma.
ABV 6.2% IBU 30
