HenHouse Brewing Delivers its 2024 Big Chicken Double IPA to Oregon

Fans of big, bold IPAs are ready to do the chicken dance as HenHouse Brewing has just released its 2024 version of Big Chicken Double IPA. The beer was officially released yesterday in Northern California at the brewery’s Santa Rosa Brewery Tasting Room, Petaluma Palace Of Barrels, and its Novato Record Room.

And today, Big Chicken Double IPA is making its way from Northern California to Oregon via Day One Distribution. Oregon’s batch of Big Chicken holds true to the brewery’s standards of getting this beer out into the wild the same day that it was kegged. So these kegs making their way north were kegged earlier today and are now being delivered as this information is being typed. Big Chicken has already been delivered to a few accounts in Southern Oregon and the beer will finally be in Portland later this afternoon.

Big Chicken is the biggest beer release from HenHouse Brewing each year. The brewery’s exceptional use of hops and its commitment to freshness is demonstrated each year with this release. With what began yesterday, the brewery’s packaging team begins five straight days of early morning kegging, to ensure that trucks can be loaded and on the road in time to complete the day’s deliveries. Every account where Big Chicken is poured agrees to have a freshly-cleaned draft line waiting when the beer arrives. This ensures that the brewery-fresh experience is shared with the widest array of fresh beer lovers possible!

For 2024, HenHouse Brewing brewed Big Chicken with a malt bill of Vienna and Wheat malt to balance out the body and add some more color to the beer. But the star of Big Chicken is in the hop bill. This year the brew team settled on adding Vista and Belma CGX hops alongside the more traditional Mosaic, Citra, Idaho 7, and Simcoe hops.

Vista hops are the latest release from the USDA Public Hop Breeding Program, with Melon, Papaya, and Stonefruit aromas being the dominant traits. Belma CGX is a concentrated version of Belma, the hop that offers up berry notes in IPA. The cryogenic extraction removes all the vegetal/ bract material from the hops, leaving us only the aromatic oils/lupulin glands. Finishing at 10.6% ABV, this year’s Big Chicken straddles the line of a Double and Triple IPA!

To find Big Chicken on draft here in Oregon, hit up these spots across the western part of the state beginning today. Don’t delay as this bold IPA will be kicked in no time!
