Eugene Beer Week Continues To Roll Along

2013 Eugene Beer Week

We’re now midway through the 3rd Annual Eugene Beer Week with many more fun and exciting events left to take place throughout the Eugene area. Brewpublic was able to make it to Eugene to take in a few of the festivities over the past couple of days.

The nice attribute that Eugene Beer Week offers is that most, if not all of the events are very affordable. The events are geared for both the beer geek and the beer novice just beginning to understand what craft beer is all about. You can take in a free sensory analysis class at Ninkasi Brewing conducted by Jamie Floyd, a few various beer dinners for $35, a Whiskey Barrel Beer Fest with free admission and the list goes on. From my vantage point it’s a week worth of fun, easy going, casual beer events that anyone can attend and make a good time out of it without draining the pocketbook. DigitalPour at The Bier Stein

16 Tons Announces Farmhouse Ale Fest & Cider Fest

Farm to Glass event at 16 Tons

Press release:

On Friday March 1, 16 Tons Cafe, the premiere beer destination in South Eugene, presents our 1st annual Farmhouse Ale Fest featuring 40 beers made in the French farmhouse tradition. Including special releases from Oakshire, Block 15, Agrarian Ales, Upright, The Commons, Logsdon, Pfriem, Ale Apothecary and other Oregon breweries. Farmhouse ales were traditionally brewed in the winter, to be consumed in spring and summer. Once an endangered beer style, a massive revival has recently taken place. Flavors are complex and include earthiness, fruit tartness, and mild spice. Logsdon and Agrarian produce their ales on working farms!

On Friday March 15, Cider Fest takes center stage at 16 Tons Cafe. According to the Northwest Cider Association Cider is the fastest growing segments in craft beverages. Many cideries such as Yakima Valley’s Tieton grow their own apples, truly connecting the farm to the table. Local producers 2 Towns from Corvallis and Anthem from Salem will be on hand to answer questions about their products. Featured Ciders include those aged in Wine Barrels, Bourbon Barrels, infused with Apricots, Cherries, and other fruit. Many of the Ciders are from single orchards. Read More…

Good Gourd Almighty!
Elysian & Ninkasi Release Hop Squash Pumpkin IPA

Ninkasi and Elysian Hop Squash collaboration Pumpkin IPA at Sixteen TonsIt was only a matter of time before someone in the Pacific Northwest came out with a pumpkin IPA. Considering they are the masters of the pumpkin brew, we figured it would be Elysian Brewing of Seattle. Known across the map for their many styles of craft pumpkin beer and for their annual Great Pumpkin Festival, Elysian has teamed up with one of the region’s best known purveyors of hoppy brews, Ninkasi Brewing of Eugene to concoct Hop Squash Pumpkin IPA.

In addition to pumpkins, Hop Squash IPA is brewed with copious amounts of Japanese Sorachi Ace and New Zealand Motueka hops. Be one of the first to try it at a special event at Sixteen Tons’ Supreme Bean Cafe in Eugene that will feature a number of specialty releases from both breweries, including multiple pumpkin brews from Elysian. Here’s the details from our friend Mike Coplin at Sixteen Tons: Read More…
