And, as an added bonus, as we do every year, we will feature the mouthwatering treats from Saraveza’s own Sugar Pimp, Lori Adams Clinton.

Sweethearts Matthew DiTullo and Katie BurnsTo make My Beery Valentine accessible for all who might have other V-Day plans, this event is taking place on Sunday February 10, 2013 on the weekend just before the big day. We’ve teamed up with Saraveza’s extraordinarily awesome staff to wrangle up craft brews from Oregon’s finest. These beers feature special ingredients to serve as a tantalizing aphrodisiac to those fortunate enough to be in attendance. No tickets required. Upright Brewing “Untitled” Bad Brains Bottle Release @ Saraveza’s Bad Habit Room

Upright Brewing, Portland’s first farmhouse-style brewery celebrates Black Friday appropriately with a new bottle release “Untitled” brewed in tribute to Punk band Bad Brains.

The release party at Saraveza’s newly remodeled Bad Habit Room includes a screening of the Bad Brains documentary “A Band in DC” and a listening party for their new album “Into the Future” released the same week on Megaforce Records. Meet Upright Brewing’s Brewer/Owner Alex Ganum, Point Blank Distributing’s Morgan Torngren-Tatman who conceptualized the beer and label artist Ezra Johnson-Greenough. Look for 4 different Upright brews on tap including the Untitled “Bad Brains” beer. Limited edition T-Shirts featuring the Untitled Bad Brains beer label will also be available for purchase for $15 as well as bottles to go.

“Untitled”, a beer with no official name but inspired by the seminal D.C. punk band Bad Brains, is a double batch that is being released in both draft and bottled form. Made in a similar vein to 2010′s imperial pilsener-style “Clash Beer”, this one uses a nearly identical recipe but with just enough highly roasted malts to lend it a very dark brown color. The lager maintains a slight hoppy edge from perle, liberty, and tettnanger varieties but stays smooth all around. It also has the distinction of being the first true lager fermented in one of our open tanks. 6.4%

From here on out the two imperial lagers will be released in bottles every other year, with 2013 marking the return of the Clash beer while the Bad Brains beer will come back in 2014.

About Upright Brewing:
Upright Brewing specializes in farmhouse inspired beers rooted in France and Belgium but made with local ingredients and a Pacific Northwest twist, while also dabbling in both classic and quirky projects from around the world. The name is a reference to Charles Mingus and his primary instrument. Mingus was a musician whose compositions defy categorization. At Upright the recipes and processes are decidedly unbound, making for a true hybrid style that shares Mingus’ spirit of exercising creativity and craft.

About Bad Brains:
Considered to be the “holy grail” of punk rock, Bad Brains are one of the definitive American punk groups who garner the same respect as Sex Pistols, Black Flag, The Ramones and The Clash. It’s a return to form for the band that helped define American Punk and Hardcore music. http://www.badbrains.com/

“This album takes us back to self-produced record shines with Bad Brains’ true sense of freedom and musical experimentation, with blends of soulful backgrounds meshed with blistering hardcore and metal riffs, with classic dub,” says Darryl Jenifer of Bad Brains.

KillerBeerWeek Nearly Killed Us

Angelo and Ben Edmunds at Sean Fest

Eight days of madness, mayhem, and magnificent beer marked Brewpublic’s KillerBeerWeek, a celebration of four years of running this Cascadian-centric craft beer blog and organizing a bunch of fun events along the way. We paced ourselves as best we could and drank lots of water along the way, but it was still an uphill battle. The ultimate test came on Saturday at Bailey’s Taproom when the pinnacle of all the events rolled around – KillerBeerFest. Publican Geoff Phillips and crew helped keep the party rockin’ with 23 total beers flowing throughout the ten hour tastival.

Click here for a look at all 8 days of events through photos that we captured, many with the help of our good man Charlie of the Beer Traveler. Prost!

Weekend In Review: KillerBeerWeek in Full Effect!

KillerBeerWeek crew representing at Roscoe's Pub

The madness begins. 10 days of Killer Beer has kicked off, and if you missed the opening KillerBeerSummit / MikeFest at Roscoe’s, there’s still plenty of great beer to experience throughout the week / weekend.

KillerBeerWeek kicked off early on Saturday as we celebrated Saraveza’s 4th Anniversary with the grand opening of their Bad Habit room next door. Great beer, as is to be expected, and a special Saraveza deer cake made by Lori Adams Clinton aka the Sugar Pimp.

At Roscoe’s on Sunday night, Jeremy Lewis and Quyen Ly worked with us to lock in 16 taps of amazing limited edition brew including several Mike beers brewed by and for Mikes / Michaels / Micahs of the beer community.

-Buckman Botanical Brewery Michaelob Ultra
-Stout brewed with cherries, hazelnuts & nutmeg. (Mike “Shoes” Higgins)
-Fort George Brewing Polish’s Dry Hopped Amber Ale (Mike “Polish” Frankowicz)
-Vertigo Brewing Friar Mike’s IPA (Mike Haines & Michael Kinion)
-The Commons Menkel Belgian Single with Rye and Spelt (Mike Wright)
-Laurelwood Micah’s Firkin Workhorse IPA (Micah Bell and Mike DeKalb)
-Migration Mike-gration Scottish Ale (Michael Branes)

Mike Haines and Michael Kinion of Vertigo Brewing at MikeFest at Roscoe's Pub during the kickoff of KillerBeerWeek at Roscoe's Pub

It was great to see so many Mikes under one roof. Now we are conditioning our livers for KillerPumpkinFest at The Green Dragon which looks to tap about 40 gourd-eous brews. For a full list of events happening during KillerBeerWeek, go to http://brewpublic.com/events
